Damon Lindelof:

I’m absolutely expecting people to bitch and moan. I’m not exactly sure what the ending will be, but I’m reasonably sure I’ll be okay with it. Other people…not so much. If it doesn’t fit into whatever idea they already have in their heads, they will bitch and moan about how stupid it is and how they’ve wasted 6 years of their lives. “I can’t believe I invested this much time into this show for such a crappy ending.” Really? How is time spent enjoying yourself wasted?
And anyone who is hoping to have all their questions answered is in for a rude awakening. This will not happen.
The ending will be cryptic. The ending will be sad. The ending will, arguably be, not an ending. The ending will leave most people saying “WTF.”
The problem with putting out a show this good for as many years as it’s been on is that when it ends, people’s expectations simply cannot be met e.g. Sopranos (as mentioned in the article), Seinfeld. It’ll never be good enough.
Personally, I plan on just sitting back and enjoying. I’ve enjoyed it this long.
Am I the only one (except apparently Michael Emmerson) who kinda thinks Matthew Fox has NO clue how its its gonna end? That he just ran up to Darlton & was like “Is THIS how its gonna end? Is THIS how its gonna end???” And they were just like “Good job Mattie, you figured it out all by yourself!” *pats on back*
Or maybe I’m just confusing him with his character too much ;)
Unless the “very specific image” is something relatively unspoiler-y (Like how JKR said the last word of the 7th book was gonna be “scar” even though that chapter got rewritten…) Like, if the final “image” is someone’s eyes opening/closing, that would be awesome and meaningful in the context of the show, but it wouldn’t be particularly spoilerific.
